The Joffrey/Arpino Festival

The year 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of Gerald Arpino’s passing and the 30th anniversary of Robert Joffrey’s passing. The Foundation would like to honor these two renowned innovators in American dance by having organizations nationally and internationally perform their works. Performances scheduled to happen during the 2018-2019 dance season will receive a very significant reduction in the licensing fee.

The Foundation is planning to end the year 2019 with a seminar of lectures, panel discussions, and master classes pertaining to Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino.  More information to come.

We hope your organization will take this opportunity to be a part of this important celebration. Please consider honoring the legacies of these two men by licensing one of their many works from the Foundation.

Birthday Variations

Brigham Young University dancers performed, Birthday Variations, in February 2017. This "sparkling showpiece of classical ballet" (Kisselgoff, NYTimes, 03/1986) showcases five females dancers and one male dancer to Verdi's opera-ballet.

"We are really excited about our show this year", said Shayla Bott, artistic director. "We have gone through a pretty thorough process to receive permission from the Gerald Arpino Foundation to perform his historical work."

Staged by Foundation repetiteur, Cameron Basden, Birthday Variations is an indispensable stepping stone for the dancers at BYU to move from students to professionals. It is always rewarding when students so enthusiastically take on a new way of moving. "They are really committed to grasping the Arpino style and did an amazing job!" said Basden.

Confetti

Fort Wayne Ballet, directed by Karen Gibbons-Brown, presented a repertory evening on Sep 26 & 28, 2014 at the Arts United Center in Fort Wayne. The program included Gerald Arpino's Confetti. This Arpino ballet, choreographed in 1970, to the music of Rossini's Overture to "Semiramide" was once described as a Tarantella to the 3rd power! Thank you Fort Wayne Ballet for keeping the spirit of Arpino ballets alive! For more information about this performance, please visit www.fortwayneballet.org

American Repertory Ballet, directed by Douglas Martin and Mary Barton, also performed Confetti for their 'Night at the Ballet' at Raritan Valley Community College in NJ on Oct 25, 2014.  The evening also featured a world premiere by Mary Barton, former Joffrey Ballet dancer, and Kirk Peterson, 'Tears of the Moon'.  www.americanrepertoryballet.org
